There are not many rules; if you aren't going to spam, spend your time trolling and/or harassing other people, posting fascist/nazi/racist/mysoginist/homophobe/transphobe shit, or porn and/or NSFW stuff without tagging it as such - AKA, you are not going to be a dick - we'll get along just fine.
In any case, our server is located in a France datacenter, and as such we have to abide by France's laws. We ask our users to not post or boost material that is illegal by French law.
Otherwise, as @tankgrll said - you own your own freedom. We own the server.

One of the incredibly important pieces of a decentralized social network is diversity of options. To that end I maintain a public Mastodon instance at https://rich.gop. This instance is free of ads, marketers, and stalkers.
I provide this service on a virtualized infrastructure that I own. I would like to improve that infrastructure, in the dimensions of availability, reliability, and speed. Users of a free and public tools shouldn't be beholden to a second-rate service. Here, I leverage my 13 years of professions distributed software development and hosting experience to deliver a first-class experience to my users.
